Photoshop for iPad has been released for almost two years now. So what changes does it have? In this article, I will talk about its advantages and disadvantages based on my daily use, hoping that Adobe will bring a qualitative leap to the Photoshop for iPad version by the end of its second anniversary this year. It now has artificial intelligence technologies such as "Object Selection" and "Select Subject" which allow people to easily make selections in images. The magical "Spot Healing Brush Tool" helps me remove unwanted content from photos, such as messy wires and people blocking the view. With the support of Apple Pencil for drawing, editing and retouching photos on the iPad is a very pleasant experience. Of course, it also has many disadvantages, which I will explain later.

Advantages: 1. Fast startup and cloud storage: Personally, I feel that the iPad version opens faster compared to the desktop version, and due to the iOS sandbox mechanism, it does not have as many resource-intensive processes as the desktop Mac version, resulting in smoother operation. Photoshop on iPad is based on cloud storage, so all your files are saved in the cloud. This allows users to edit images anytime, anywhere, without the hassle of transferring files. Another benefit of cloud storage is that it keeps a history record, so you can revert to any previously saved point.

2. Creating hand-drawn icons with clipping masks for coloring: With the help of Apple Pencil, you can quickly draw icons freely, which is much more intuitive than using a mouse. Utilizing clipping masks, you can easily color different areas without going beyond the desired boundaries, making it easier to control the range when drawing.

3. Object selection: You only need to roughly select the object, and Photoshop will automatically refine the selection for you. For example, in the image, if you want to select the "stylus pen," you just need to box-select the rough area where the pen is located, and Photoshop will automatically select the pen correctly.

4. Healing brush tool for content removal: When editing photos, it is often necessary to remove unwanted content such as obstructing wires or people. With the powerful healing brush tool in Photoshop, you can easily remove obstructing objects, and the repaired areas will blend seamlessly with the original image.

5. Zoom in for detailed image retouching: On the iPad, you can zoom in on images and use Apple Pencil for precise retouching, which produces great results and is suitable for fine-tuning images.

Disadvantages: 1. Brush tool: The Apple Pencil has a slippery feel, resulting in lines that may not be straight and curves that are sometimes difficult to control. It lacks features like the one in Procreate where the line pauses for the system to assist in correcting the shape.

2. Lack of shape tools: Basic shape tools are missing, as well as the pen tool, making it inconvenient to draw commonly used shapes such as rounded rectangles, circles, ovals, trapezoids, and parallelograms. Combining shapes is also not available, you can only temporarily merge shapes using the "selection" tool.

3. Inconvenient angle adjustments: When adjusting the angle of an object, the precision is not fine enough. Although there is an input field, it is not convenient. It would be better if it could combine iPad touch gestures. For example, when adjusting the angle, one finger holds the angle handle while the other finger taps up and down on the screen to make precise positive or negative adjustments.

4. Accidental touches during selection: In "brush" and "eraser" mode, the use of Apple Pencil and fingers is strictly distinguished. However, in "selection" mode, fingers and Pencil are treated the same, making accidental touches easy to occur. Sometimes, it can cause the selection to be misplaced.

In conclusion, as we approach the end of 2021, the second anniversary of Photoshop for iPad is approaching. I hope that Adobe will bring more new features to Photoshop at that time. The iPad version should not simply replicate the desktop version's operations, but instead innovate based on the characteristics of tablets.
